Dynamics 365 Project Operations “New PSA” Announced

Microsoft has released Dynamics 365 Project Operations, the latest module in the suite of cloud business applications. It is indeed the successor of the current project management app-Dynamics 365 Project Service Automation.

As it is scheduled to become generally available from October 2020, customer who are already using Dynamics 365 Project Service Automation will be given up to four years, depending on their contracts, to make the transition over to Project Operations.

Project Operations brings the capabilities from Project Service Automation (PSA), Microsoft Projects, Microsoft Planner, and Dynamics 365 Finance together in a single application. Microsoft describes it as end-to-end project management solution that helps business to “win more deals, optimize resource utilization, speed project delivery, simplify time and expense reporting, optimize project economics, and discover business insights”.

This application is completely based on Common Data Service (CDS), which can be customized, extended with the tools of the Power Platform, thus allowing project based organizations to adapt it even more closely to their needs. With Project Operations, the core project management capabilities are directly integrated into flow of work that allows timely staffing and precise tracking of project financials.

With Project Operations, teams across organization will be able to work together across back-end and front-end processes in the same application. This will help them to make decisions with confidence based on single source of truth.

The integration of certain entities from Dynamics 365 Finance, your finance team can now do project costing, budgeting, invoicing, revenue recognition, compliance, with visibility into key business health metrics such as gross margin and project profitability.
